Employee Spotlight: Lesia Walker

Our Employee Spotlight series aims to highlight the diverse, talented and ambitious individuals that make Uni-Structures a success. Today, we are celebrating our Human Resources Officer, Lesia Walker. Leisa ensures that every person who joins our team instantly feels part of the ever-growing Uni-Structures family!

Can you explain your journey here at Uni-Structures, from when you first started working here until now?

After 20 years of being a stay-at-home mom, in 2014 I decided to re-enter the workforce and landed as a temp in the receptionist role at USI. I was terrified to say the least! After a month or so of being in the receptionist role, I was moved to the administrative/finance team. Just a few weeks later, I was approached by a member of the executive team and was informed that the decision had been made to make me USI’s official Human Resources Lady. I will never forget the reasoning behind it, “You just seem so motherly and like you genuinely enjoy caring for and serving others.” Again, I was terrified. I had NO experience in the HR field and voiced that concern openly. Before the end of that year, the company had provided me with the opportunity to take classes at KSU in their continuing education program and that eventually led to my professional certification with the Society for Human Resources Management in 2020.

Will you briefly describe your current role?

I am still considered the “HR Lady”, I also greet visitors and customers when they come into the building, but most importantly I support and serve our employees.

What is your favorite part about your job?

Being able to serve others. I view our employees as my customers. I love and get my energy from the interactions I have with them on a daily basis.

What are you most proud of from your time at Uni-Structures?

Definitely the certification I received last year. I have always been one to give up on difficult things I would set out to do and eventually quit or throw in the towel because I was so afraid of failing.

Three words to best describe you:

Lesia and her Grandson, Theo!
Lesia and her grandson, Theo!

Fun, optimistic, peacemaker.

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?

I love spending time with family and friends. I especially enjoy being Lee-Lee to my grandbabies, Theo and Charleigh.

What is one thing you can’t live without?

That’s easy, Coke Zero!

What is something that few people know about you?

I have only flown on an airplane twice and both times I flew to Israel.

Favorite Book, Movie, Quote or other?

Favorite movie is any movie starring Jason Bateman and favorite song is any song sung by Keith Urban.

Life quote, “I’m just a rickety raggedy ragamuffin whose cheese is constantly falling off her cracker.”
